Get to Know This Site's Creator

Lisa Whalen has an M.A. in creative and critical writing, and a Ph.D. in postsecondary and adult education. Her research focus is on narratives and empathy.

Whalen teaches composition, research, journalism, literature, and creative writing at North Hennepin Community College in Minnesota. She has also directed a university writing center, where she trained faculty from all disciplines on how to teach writing, develop effective writing assignments, and create assessment rubrics.

Whalen's academic and creative writing have appeared in numerous publications. Her book, Stable Weight: A Memoir of Hunger, Horses, and Hope, is available from Hopewell Publications. For more information about her writing and teaching, visit her website or Amazon Author page.
